When you feel that first surge (contraction) it’s easy to get excited and to think that you should be ‘doing’ something to help to get these surges really going.

My best advice to you is:

✨This is actually the time to conserve your energy
✨Rest, snuggle up, get cosy and allow that oxytocin to build

Ever wonder why a lot of birthing people go into spontaneous labour during the night time and then perhaps it slows down or tails off as you get up?

At night when you’re asleep you feel safe, relaxed, cosy, calm, your melatonin levels are high - which help to boost oxytocin!

Instead of getting up and doing things…whether that be walking for miles (as some people do) or bouncing ferociously on your birth ball just allow surges to build in their own time

Even if you can’t sleep! Have a chill for as long as feels comfortable to you! Or better still cuddle up to your other half 🥰💤

DID YOU KNOW that how you stand or sit during pregnancy can influence how much space you have in your uterus and pelvis and therefore how much space is available for your baby to get into a favourable position for birth?!

Bio-mechanics is one of the 3 main factors which can affect the physiology of birth (along with fear and medicalisation)

If there is misalignment in your spine or there is imbalance in your ligaments and your pelvis there is more chance of your baby getting into a trickier position for birth and therefore increasing the chances of needing intervention during labour and birth!

Being mindful about your posture throughout pregnancy can make a huge difference to your labour and reduce the chances of needing intervention

Try to avoid:

🌟Slouching on the sofa - instead sit on a birthing ball where your spine and pelvis will be more aligned

🌟Crossing your legs -keep both feet flat on the floor instead when sat on a chair

🌟Wearing high heels -stick to flat comfortable shoes

🌟Shifting weight to one leg when carrying/lifting something heavy - make sure your weight is evenly distributed in both legs

These simple tweaks can make a big difference.

Due time fun 🤪 People mean well, but it can get quite 🤯 when the messages are pinging… for weeks!

A great way to avoid this is to share a due time rather than give your specific due date to friends and family earlier on in your pregnancy, or say baby’s due date is a week or two later than it is! It just helps to take the pressure off later on if you have more of a wait 🤍✨

The new ‘Mindful Birth Teacher’ and ‘ Mindful Birth Health Care Professional’ Training courses open today 🌟 . They are 4 week self-paced courses with live weekly huddles on a Monday evening on Zoom.

Could you be joining us in February/March for the next training course?

Teacher training: If you have a love for supporting parents through pregnancy and preparing them for birth and the postnatal recovery period; we’d love to hear from you! Whether you’ve trained in a similar area before or are completely new to the space, our team is full of a variety of backgrounds.

Health Care Professionals: If you are a midwife or support families through pregnancy and birth, we have a specialised course for you to learn the principles of Mindful Birth to incorporate the tools into your day-to-day care.

A little reminder that when things feel a bit too much, a big, deep breath can make all of the different.

Tension in the body can make us forget to breathe properly, leading to fatigue and anxiety as the body thinks it is in high alert.

Want to take it a step further? Step outside in fresh air and nature if you can as you take that calming deep breath.
